Heropanti 2 vs Baaghi franchise, how successful is Tiger Shroff’s latest?
Tiger Shroff films have always been high on action and major money spinners at the box office. However, can we say the same about his latest, Heropanti 2, compared to say, the Baaghi franchise? Let’s find out.
After making his debut in 2014 with Heropanti, Tiger Shroff carved a niche for himself as an action hero. From high-octane action sequences to impressive stunts, the actor is known to nail all that with finesse. Tiger Shroff’s latest film, Heropanti 2, was released on April 29. While he has been garnering praise for this action entertainer, the box office collection says otherwise. Hence, the question arises, is the audience done with the genre called Tiger Shroff? Where does Heropanti 2 stand compared to the Baaghi franchise? Let’s find out:
WHERE DOES HEROPANTI 2 STAND AGAINST BAAGHI 3?
Tiger Shroff’s films are mostly about a series of airborne sequences sprinkled with melodious songs, a pleasant-on-the-eyes leading lady and enough room to showcase the actor’s mastery of various kinds of martial arts. While Tiger’s ardent fans enjoy his action entertainers thoroughly, others perhaps are expecting something new from the actor.
When it comes to Heropanti 2’s box office collection, on its opening day, the film earned a total of Rs 7.50 crore. Box Office India’s reports suggested, “The multiplex movement was very slow for Heropanti 2.” On the other hand, Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor’s Baaghi 3, which was released in 2020, opened at Rs 17.50 crore at the box office, despite the coronavirus scare.
WHAT DID THE CRITICS SAY ABOUT HEROPANTI 2 AND BAAGHI 3?
In both films, Tiger, as an actor, was at his usual best. He owned every scene, nailed the action sequences and gave glimpses of being funny and romantic. However, what failed to work for our reviewers was the storyline.
With many gaps in the plot and unnecessary scenes, the 2-hour-22-minute Heropanti 2 could have easily been cut to an hour if not more. “A bit more focus on the storyline, plot and character development are what Heropanti 2 lacked,” wrote IndiaToday.in’s reviewer Tanushree Roy.
Baaghi 3 also didn’t impress the critics and received mixed reviews. Our reviewer, Nairita Mukherjee, rated the film 1.5 out of 5 stars. In her review, she wrote, “Baaghi 3, the third instalment of the super successful Baaghi franchise, remained true to its genre through its 143-minute runtime. In terms of performances, Tiger’s abs took the cake, hands down, shirts off. But Tiger Shroff per se wasn’t half as bad as Shraddha Kapoor. There’s bad acting, and then there is over-acting. Shraddha’s was bad over-acting.”
Both Heropanti 2 and Baaghi 3 are directed by Ahmed Khan. While Heropanti 2 features Tiger Shroff, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Tara Sutaria, Baaghi 3 starred Tiger Shroff, Shraddha Kapoor, along with Riteish Deshmukh, Ankita Lokhande, Jaideep Ahlawat, Vijay Varma and Ashutosh Rana.
